Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Intrauterine insemination (IUI), also known as artificial insemination (AI), is an ideal solution for many couples facing infertility struggles. With a high 50 percent success rate, New Life India Fertility Clinic is proud to offer this solution to a variety of parents, including those facing male infertility or unexplained infertility. IUI is a relatively low-risk procedure when performed by trained and experienced professionals such as those at New Life India Fertility Clinic. If you and your doctor decide IUI is right for your needs and circumstances, it may be the solution to help you have a baby.

Is IUI Right for You?

As with any medical treatment, you should discuss the possibility of IUI with your doctor before making a decision. Your doctor will want to perform a thorough diagnosis of your condition and assess whether IUI treatment would be an appropriate solution for you. Common indications for IUI include the following:

  • Hostile cervical mucus
  • Intercourse impossible due to sexual pain
  • Male infertility
  • Unexplained infertility
  • Unsuccessful fertility drug treatment
  • Use of a sperm donor

What to Expect with IUI

Feeling nervous before your IUI treatment is completely normal, and so we want to encourage you to be open and speak with your doctor if you have any questions or concerns about your treatment. New Life India Fertility Clinic professionals have the training and equipment needed to perform the procedure right here in our facility, and so you can remain safe and comfortable. They will start by washing the father’s or sperm donor’s semen to remove impurities, leaving only what is needed for conception. After washing, the semen is transferred to the mother’s uterus through a small, thin tube that goes through her cervix.

Sometimes, the mother may need to take progesterone following the IUI treatment. She will need to return to the doctor for bloodwork to check progesterone and estrogen levels about a week later. Ten to 14 days after treatment, a take-home or in-office pregnancy test will be used to see if the procedure was successful. This waiting period can be one of the most emotionally draining experiences with the IUI treatment, but please do not feel as if you are alone. We are here for you at any time.

Risks of IUI

IUI is a common procedure, and the medical professionals at New Life India Fertility Clinic are trained, skilled, and experienced, so there is minimal risk to the mother or future baby. After the procedure, you will be monitored to ensure there are no complications from the treatment. If at any time you feel any discomfort or have concerns, please contact our team immediately.
